Position Summary:


The Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) provides peer-based recovery support services to individuals referred through the JPS Prevention, Access, Treatment, and Healing (PATH) Program. Using lived experience and a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, the RSPS helps individuals engage in healthcare, recovery, and supportive services while addressing barriers related to substance use, mental health, housing instability, and other social needs.

• Strong understanding of recovery principles, substance use disorders, and mental health
• Knowledge of community resources and healthcare navigation
• Ability to build rapport and engage individuals with complex needs
• Effective communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to service delivery


Responsibilities:

• Provide peer recovery coaching, mentoring, and support to PATH participants
• Conduct outreach, engagement, follow-up, and care navigation services
• Connect participants to healthcare, behavioral health, housing, transportation, and community resources
• Support participants in developing recovery goals and strengthening recovery support networks
• Coordinate services with JPS PATH staff and community partners
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation and data entry
• Participate in required meetings, trainings, and supervision
• Adhere to agency policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements
• Conduct community-based outreach and follow-up activities as needed


Qualifications:

• Certified Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) in Texas, or eligible and willing to obtain certification within the first year of employment
• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
• Experience in recovery support, substance use, behavioral health, or related human services preferred
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery pathways, and community resources
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance required
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
